The storms could lash New Jersey anytime between 4 and 9 p.m, the weather service’s Mount Holly office aid. The chances of a tornado are “very low but not zero,” the weather service said in its morning forecast discussion. Forecasters remain unsure where the strongest storms might potentially set up later in the day.
Localized flash flooding is also possible in urban and low-lying areas and minor flooding can’t be ruled out along small streams and creeks, according to the weather service’s New York office, which covers Bergen, Essex, Hudson, Passaic and Union counties.
Highs will top out in the low to mid 90s on Thursday afternoon.
Temperatures along the Jersey Shore will top out in the 80s and water temperatures have climbed into the mid to upper 70s.
Any storms taper off later Thursday, though forecasters note widely scattered thunderstorms could develop after midnight. Heavy rain is the greater threat overnight.
I have to work in it and it’s funny, far from it, that @NWSSpokane tweets enjoy it. I dread the the weather we are facing for the next week. Thank you for giving a care. https://t.co/Sh8wrphK28

We should have mainly dry Friday morning before another round of showers and thunderstorms during the afternoon and evening with a chance of flooding. Highs on a cloudy day will be bit cooler than Thursday — mainly in the mid 80s.
Most of the state is at a slight risk for excessive rainfall.
The weekend forecast looks unsettled with at least some rain expected both Saturday and Sunday. Neither day will be a washout with the first half of Saturday expected to be dry. Both days will be warm, with widespread highs in the mid to upper 80s.
