Emmy Predictions 2023 : Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series

Emmy Predictions 2023 :This is not coming from the most unbiased source, but when facing against the well-oiled awards campaigning machine that is the HBO, one can often leverage a good couple of interviews into an against-all-odds Emmy win. Emmy Predictions 2023.

That seemed so close to being the case for “Yellowjackets” breakout Melanie Lynskey during last year’s Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series race, but voters could not help but pat themselves on the back one more time for recognizing Zendaya as a generational talent.

With the WGA and SAG strikes preventing most above the line talent from participating in post-nomination interviews, voters are only left with the submitted episodes to determine who should win the Emmy this year. Given the show’s dominance across categories, it looks like Sarah Snook could finally win for her turn as the shifty Shiv Roy in the final season of “Succession,” but again, that is with the benefit of Lynskey not being able to campaign too much.

If the strike were to end, it does feel like Lynskey would be able to put herself out there enough to secure her first Emmy win over the lesser known Snook, even if TV Academy voters’ interest in her electrifying Showtime series seem to have waned.

“The Last of Us” star Bella Ramsey is on a more popular show than both the aforementioned actresses, but their performance as Ellie is not showcased enough to triumph over the bias against awarding teenage talent.

Just look at the last three nominees—all actresses who have an established history with the Emmys, whether they have won or not. “The Diplomat” was a last minute hit for Netflix, and TV icon Keri Russell has yet to win an Emmy, but the show is too recent to have made enough of a splash so big it sways voters.

“The Handmaid’s Tale” star Elisabeth Moss has already won two Emmys, and has more awards seasons to come, so voters do not have much incentive to award her this particular year. The most recent season of the early Hulu hit kind of came and went without too much fanfare (it notably did not get an Outstanding Drama Series nomination this time).

Similarly, “Bad Sisters” creator/star Sharon Horgan recently cleaned up at the BAFTA TV Awards, but the Apple TV+ show was not too monumental a hit stateside, so it feels unlikely that voters are rushing to go out of their way to further recognize her performance. However good the Emmys are at nominating female multihyphenates for their acting, they very rarely win the category.
